iTunes for Windows

Admittedly I don't use my PC for much these days, but I couldn't resist downloading and installing iTunes for Windows. Wow - it looks almost identical and seems to provide everything that the Mac version does. I do like the way that they've made the look and feel resemble Aqua (click for the full size image). While my PC isn't particularly fast by recent standards, it generally runs Java stuff quicker than my PowerBook. However, you can really tell where Mac OS X excels - the iTunes visualizations under Windows are much blockier and more sluggish.

Anybody know if there are plans to release iChat AV for Windows? That would excellent ... full screen video chats across platforms. Perhaps one day.

Re: iTunes for Windows

I do like the UI for itunes on windows better than winamp but both seem to use about the same amount of cpu and cause major skipping when running other cpu hogs like Norton products, peer to peer networks and web browsers. What a wonderful world it would be if I could just listen to and download music and browse the web at the same time. Is that to much to ask! Any suggestions? I use iexplorer, itunes and emule currently, uh... apparently two years since you posted this...

Re: iTunes for Windows

Re: iTunes for Windows

Re: iTunes for Windows

I'm having the same problem. My mac recently died and since the repair was way too expensive I decided to buy a pc. Is there a way to switch my ipod from a mac setup to a pc without erasing all of the songs on it? Does anyone know how I might be able to get my songs off of the ipod and be able to transfer them to my pc?

Re: iTunes for Windows

So, here's what happens. iTunes scrambles up your music directory when you load songs onto your iPod, putting songs by the same artist into different folders, and giving the songs and folders random names. First, make sure you can see hidden folders. At the top menu bar of My Computer, go to Tools>Folder Options, then click the tab labeled

When you have the visualizer running fullscreen on your PC press "T" to turn the frame-rate cappnig off (defaut is 30FPS). the visualizations will run much faster (and smoother) from what I can see. Also press "N" to change between normal color and hi-contrast colors. Just do a search for "ITunes Cheat Sheet" and you'll find other key commands.

Re: iTunes for Windows

you have to import all ure music to your pc, using a tool like... sharepod. then bring it to itunes then format your ipoooood and then upload them again

Re: iTunes for Windows

I'm running iTunes on a Dell Latitude D820 notebook with 2.16 gHz Dual Core processor, 512 MB nVidia Quadro NVS 120M, 2 GB RAM, and XP Pro, and the iTunes visualizer still runs very slow under full screen, about 23 FPS. My parents' $300 Dell desktop from two years ago runs it faster. Any ideas on how to improve my FPS? I've gone as far as to midly overclock my nVidia card (which should always be done carefully, especially on a laptop where heat is a problem), with no improvement. Also, my idle speed for my processors is close to 40%. Is that normal? I've never seen idle speeds that high!
