General impressions of Monday keynote
The keynote this morning was pretty interesting although, like last year, there was nothing that was very unexpected. I'll post some entries on specific topics when I get a bit more time, but the theme of the keynote was that Java is all around us, and that there's a thriving community with many business opportunities. I think the only real shock news was that Sun have decided to re-number the platform releases. Tiger will be known as J2SE 5.0 and the next version of J2EE will follow suit. I can see the logic, but "Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition 5.0"? Speaking of Tiger, they brought on a Tiger cub which was cool, although the poor thing was very tired!
Differences to previous years include the lack of John Gage as host and the usual pre-keynote band. One of the presenters made a comment that there were 15,000 people attending this years JavaOne conference which shows that the industry is definitely on the up.
