Early version of Pebble moblog
With one thing or another, Sam and I haven't put much time into Pebble moblog since we announced it a while back. The codebase is in the process of being tidied up, ready to be imported into CVS and we thought that it would be good to get an early version out there. So, without further ado, here it is (you may need to right click, Save As...).
It's implemented on the MIDP 1.0 platform and *should* work on any MIDP 1.0 compatible handset. Sam and I both have Nokia series 60 phones and we've been using these to test moblog. To install it on a series 60, just Bluetooth it over. Alternatively, you should be able to navigate straight to the JAR from your handset's browser/Opera. I have a lot of respect for anybody writing J2ME applications as a day job, because it's not the easiest technology to work with, especially on an Apple Mac! Although moblog works on our phones, I have no doubt that there will be problems with other devices because it doesn't even work with some of the emulators I've tried.
As far as functionality goes, moblog supports the Blogger API and will allow you to view/edit the most recent five entries, post new entries and delete existing entries (please watch out for the delete as there is no confirmation at the moment). Upon starting moblog for the first time you will get the preferences form where you should fill out the details of your blog. For Pebble users, these can be found in the by clicking the Blog properties link after logging in. Of course, provided that moblog works on your phone, it should work with any Blogger API compatible blog. After entering your details you'll be taken back to the main screen where you can choose to view the recent entries or create a new one. Opening the recent entries sometimes gives me an error on my Nokia 6600 (something about the lcdui stuff) but retrying usually works. Depending on your phone, you'll probably get a popup asking whether moblog can connect to the Internet, and another asking which connection it should use. Don't worry, your login details aren't going anywhere other than your blog!
Looking to the future, we're hoping to have a save draft feature and, after an upgrade to MIDP 2.0, compatibility with the MetaWeblog API for uploading images. If you're looking for a tool to post textual blog entries on the move (and can't blog via e-mail), give moblog a try and let us now what you think.
Re: Early version of Pebble moblog
That's good to know. Not the disconnection stuff, but that fact that it works on a T3
That only happens if the network connection is not started before moblog is started. If it is started before moblog is started, it still prompts you to allow it to use 'airtime', but it neither initiates or disconnects the network.
How do you find the WebSphere micro stuff?
It's a free download for (some) Palm users.

Re: Early version of Pebble moblog Sorry, I meant is it easy/good to use?
<g>
The only real world project I did using it (or any J2ME environment) was with the MIDP 1.0 version. It was painful, but it was also partly due to the fact that this was also my first (and currently last) Java GUI app. For recent PDA apps I have only had to target a specicfic PDA, so I used another language/tool.
I have not tried again since the MIDP 2.0 version has been released

Great Stuff !!!
The number one feature for me would be being able to store multiple posts and then post to the server. Many Thanks for this great tool!!!
