LaCie d2

LaCie d2 My poor little PowerBook is running out of disk space, mainly due to my iTunes and iPhotos libraries. I was briefly tempted to buy a dual-G5, but then I regained my senses and decided to buy an external drive instead - a LaCie d2 Hard Drive Extreme with Triple Interface 250GB. Despite a few problems finding these in stock at competitive prices, it worked like a dream right out of the box using the FireWire 400 interface and it's even pre-formatted for Apple. My iPhoto library now resides on the external disk and performance doesn't seem to have suffered at all. I wish all hardware was like this.

Re: LaCie d2

I picked up the 200MB one...pretty happy with it. The only thing is that (being picky) I noticed some minor scratches on the external housing, how's yours?

Re: LaCie d2

It's fine. I think the only negative thing to say about these drives is that they are much noisier than I expected, particularly when starting up and shutting down!

Re: LaCie d2

I picked up a 500Gb drive and have had nothing but trouble with it and the service at LaCie is "no see".

Re: LaCie d2

I just picked up the exact drive and after a week it just stopped being recognized by my powerbook. I've tried all tricks suggested in forums and Lacie tech support and still no drive recognition. I sent an inquiry to Lacie and am waiting to hear back from them. Hope this can be sorted out... There is a firmware update program on the Lacie website you might want to try.

Re: LaCie d2

Don't these things have Maxtors in them?
