Newsreader suggestions

I need a new newsreader

Now that I'm not carrying a Mac around, I feel kind of lost without NetNewsWire. I used to have my PowerBook wake up at 6am and pull down all the new items from my subscriptions, ready for me to read on the train on the way to work. Now I have a Windows laptop, I'm without a newsreader.

Any recommendations? I'd prefer an offline reader, but I'm open to suggestions.

Re: Newsreader suggestions

Sharpreader ( http://www.sharpreader.com/ ) is ok but always seems to end up taking a huge amount of memory.

Re: Newsreader suggestions

I really like Omea Reader. http://www.jetbrains.com/omea/reader/

Re: Newsreader suggestions

I used to use feed demon before net newswire http://www.newsgator.com/NGOLProduct.aspx?ProdID=FeedDemon

Re: Newsreader suggestions

Check out GreatNews from http://www.curiostudio.com/ It is quite fast, saves yours posts, supports filters and highlighting and also syncs with your bloglines account if you have one. And wait ... its free !

Re: Newsreader suggestions

blogbridge - does offline, imports opml from bloglines (after a fashion) etc

Re: Newsreader suggestions

Thanks for all of your suggestions. Being an IntelliJ IDEA user, I downloaded Omea Reader and I'm a little disappointed. It just seems too ... complicated (if that's the right word). I'll spend some more time looking at it and let you know how I get on.

Re: Newsreader suggestions

Sorry I'm late to comment here, and worse I'm recomending a web-based tool, Bloglines.  I love it and have been using it for a long, long time (03/26/04).

Personally, I use web-based tools as often as possible.  I have a work laptop, a couple home machines, and the freedom to sit down at any machine in the world and catch up on the blogs I read.  I'm paranoid about getting my personal machines out-of-sync and using tools like Bloglines eliminates this problem.

Now that I've gone off on a bit of a rant, you and your habits are different.  You use your daily commute as a time to catch up on your blog reading so I can see you needing something different then Bloglines, but it's just such a great tool.  :)
