About

Simon is a hands-on software architect and a senior consultant at C5 Alliance in Jersey. Over the past 12 years, he’s been involved in projects ranging from rich desktop clients and web applications through to highly scalable distributed systems and service-oriented architectures; predominantly within the finance industry. He's also undertaken consulting and training roles with a broader focus on people, process and technology.

Simon is additionally active in wider aspects of the IT industry. Using his architecture experience, he founded the Coding the Architecture website, delivering content for the growing community of hands-on pragmatic software architects. He has also written and co-written a number of books about Java EE web technologies, spoken at a number of high profile software development conferences, developed a software architecture training course and actively maintains a public blog.

Most recently, Simon has set up itjersey; a web-based community for information technology in Jersey.

Subscribe by e-mail

Now supported by Pebble

I've been putting a few new features into Pebble recently, one of which is the ability to subscribe to blog entry updates via e-mail. With web-based newsreaders such as Bloglines and Google Reader, I thought that the use of RSS/Atom feeds was more or less ubiquitous for subscribing to blogs, etc. However, a few people have recently mentioned that they still don't use a newsreader and that they do actually subscribe to some sites via e-mail. In response to this, I've added the ability to subscribe to Pebble powered blogs by e-mail.

You can subscribe here and I'd be really interested to hear from anybody that prefers this mechanism over newsfeeds.

Yay! Many of my acquaintances are luddites when it comes to feeds ... now they can "subscribe" to my site, too! This is a killer feature that will make me upgrade from 1.9 to 2.X ...

I recently set up a private blog to keep in contact with family and friends, most of whom have never read a blog, let alone used an RSS reader. A few of them have requested the ability to subscribe via email - and it'll make my life easier so I don't have to mail a whole bunch of people every time I post (kind of defeating the purpose of blogging stuff...)

Excellent enhancement. When should I upgrade? I'm running 2.1
